DAVIDSON, ARTHUR. (1881–1950). One of the Original Founders of Harley-Davidson Motor Co.  Uncommon Typed Letter Signed “Arthur Davidson”, on Harley-Davidson letterhead. One page, quarto. “Milwaukee, February 20, 1936, to Mr. Marcus Hilden, Ellsworth, Wisconsin. Davidson thanks Hilden for his enthusiasm and interest in his motorcycles and offer him a bar wing pin as a token of appreciation:

 

“Dear Sir: It was mighty fine of you to send in the names of your friends who have become interested in motorcycling since you have had your Harley-Davidson. Complete information about our newest models is being mailed them.  Each friend  of yours who becomes a Harley-Davidson owner will mean just that much more fun for you. “The more the merrier,” certainly applies to a bunch of live, care-free motorcycle riders.  There are so many places to go, so many new things to see, and so much sport and fun to enjoy with a Harley-Davidson that you are doing your friends a favor by telling, them about this wonderful sport. Take them over to your dealer and let him explain how easy it is to purchase on the Savings Purchase Plan or the Pay-As-You-Ride Plan. As a small token of thanks for your interest, we are enclosing one of our beautiful bar wing pins. Please consider this letter an invitation to you and your friends to visit our factory at any time it suits your convenience. We have regular trips through the factory for visitors every day in charge of a competent guide, and we know you will enjoy seeing how Harley-Davidsons are built from raw material right to the final test. Just superb!   Davidson letters are surprisingly scarce, with this just being our second offering in the last 20+ years.  A must have item for the Harley-Davidson devotee, and for the collector of classic iconic Americana!
