WHITTIER, JOHN GREENLEAF.   (1807-1892)  American Quaker poet and ardent abolitionist.  Carte-de-Visite Photograph Signed, “John G. Whittier”, under his image on the photographic surface.  No place, no date, but Massachusetts, circa 1869. Whittier is depicted in a full-face, bust pose, facing right.  Image by “Curries & Jones / Amesbury and Salisbury, / Mass[achusetts]” with their imprint on the verso.   Pencil notation on verso indicates the image was received May 1st, 1869.  Ex-James Lowe collection.  Very fine condition.
