HERSCHEL, SIR JOHN FREDERICK WILLIAM. (1792-1871). President of the Royal Astronomical Society; a pioneer in celestial photography; discovered the planet Uranus; hypothesized that nebulae are composed of stars; and developed a theory of stellar evolution.
