BASEBALL ~ 1888!

HARVARD VS YALE    ~  ALONSO STAGG, PITCHED FOR YALE!

[BASEBALL].  The great American sport.  Original scorecard for the game played between Harvard University and Yale University, on June 9, 1888 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.   Canary yellow imprinted heavy card stock,  approximately 5 x 8 inches, with one side detailing the full schedule for 1888, listing the other schools, [Dartmouth, Williams, Princeton, Columbia, Boston U, etc],  with previous games scores printed in the final column.  The verso contains the printed lineup for the game, along with pencil notations as to the hits and runs scored. Harvard won, 7-3.  Most especially noted is that the starting pitcher for Yale was Amos Alonzo Stagg (1862 – 1965) who was a legendary American athlete and college coach in multiple sports, primarily football.  Just a superb piece of baseball ephemera from the Harvard –Yale rivalry, and baseball!
