SHELLEY, MARY (1797-1851) British novelist, short story writer, dramatist, essayist, biographer, and travel writer. Shelley is best known for her Gothic novel: Frankenstein: or, The Modern Prometheus. Rare Autograph Letter Signed, “Mary Shelley.” One page, octavo. “24 Chester Sq.” “13 Dec.” no year. [She lived at this address from 1846, until her death in 1851.] Shelley writes to: ‘My dear Sir’.
“Many thanks for you communications which gave me great pleasure- I am truly obliged to you for the trouble you have so kindly taken. Sir Percy desires his compliments. I am yrs truly, Mary Shelley.”
Her letters, and those of her husband Percy Bysshe Shelley, are of legendary rarity. This is a fine example, and would display nicely.
