BARNUM, PHINEAS T. (1810-1891). American showman.  Autograph Note Signed, “P.T. Barnum,” on his magnificent imprinted  Headquarters of Barnum’s American Museum letterhead,  bearing an image of Barnum’s New York museum. One page, quarto. New York. “Sept[ember] 20 1865.”  Old archival tape repair to horizontal fold/tear on verso at center, not affecting Barnum’s letter or his bold signature.  Barnum writes to “My Dear Sir”:

“…I will be in today & tomorrow Please call Wednesday or Thursday  —  Yrs Truly P.T. Barnum.”

The printed text at left edge reads:

“MR. BARNUM will be deeply grateful for all contributions of Curiosities for his new Museum. They may be sent to the above address. Receipts signed to him will be forwarded, and the names of donors will be placed upon each article, and published in the Museum catalog. It is desired that all articles sent be plainly described, and the names of donors legibly written. Most of the public Express Companies have kindly consented to convey all such articles to the Museum, free of charge.”
