A NEAT JEFFERSON / MADISON ‘CUT-SIGNATURE’ PAIRING — JEFFERSON AS PRESIDENT AND MADISON AS SECRETARY OF STATE
JEFFERSON, THOMAS. (1743-1826). Third President of the United States. His Signature, “Th. Jeffe[rson]”, as President, on a small octavo vellum leaf, as cut from a document. [Approximately 3 x 5 inches]. Countersigned by Secretary of State, JAMES MADISON. No place, [Washington, D.C.], no month, but 1803. There is a clean cut in the document removing much of the ending of Jefferson’s signature, but Madison’s is completely intact. The accomplishment of each signature, or what remains of Jefferson’s is very acceptable.
