THE ‘FATHER OF SCIENCE FICTION’
H.G. WELLS SIGNS A POST-CARD PHOTOGRAPH OF HIS HOME: “EASTON GLEBE”
WELLS, H[ERBERT] G[EORGE]. (1866-1946) English author, often been called the “father of science fiction”; best known for his works of science fiction, mainly: The Time Machine (1895), which was his first novel, The Island of Doctor Moreau (1896), The Invisible Man (1897), and The War of the Worlds (1898) — [just a remarkable literary output in 4 years time span]. Exceedingly-scarce picture post-card photograph of his home “Easton Glebe, Dunmow, Essex” that he has annotated on the verso: “H.G. Too – 1.15 Wed[nesday] May 14 / Empress Club / H.G.” We date this to circa 1920. A really remarkable specialty item for the Well’s collector, or the real estate enthusiast! In our 45+ years, we can not recall seeing another one like this. Very fine condition.
