ROBERT E. PEARY, THE FIRST MAN TO CLAIM TO HAVE REACHED THE NORTH POLE,  PROTECTS HIS PUBLICATION RIGHTS TO HIS BOOK:  ”THE LURE OF THE POLE”

PEARY, ROBERT, E. (1856-1920) Rear Admiral, North Pole Explorer. Document Signed “R. E. Peary”. One page, oblong octavo. May 8, 1905. In this partly printed document, Peary assigns all serial rights of his article ‘The Lure of the Pole‘, for consideration of one hundred dollars. A few vertical folds, light toning and his signature is somewhat ink-blotted. Very Good condition. The document reads: “In consideration of the sum of $100. the receipt of which I hereby acknowledge, I hereby convey to The Perry Mason Company, of Boston, Mass., in the United States of America, Publishers, and their assigns, all serial rights whatsoever and wheresoever in an article written by me and now in the possession of the said Company, entitled The Lure of the Pole And I hereby undertake that neither the said article nor any similar article, founded on the same material or subject shall be published anywhere as a book either singly or as part of a collection until the expiration of six months from its first serial appearance.
