SIR JOHN MARTIN-HARVEY DEPICTED IN HIS MOST FAMOUS ROLE

MARTIN-HARVEY, SIR JOHN.  (1863-1944).  English stage actor and manager; known before his knighthood in 1921 as John Martin Harvey; joined Henry Irving’s Lyceum Theatre company in 1882; his most famous play, and role, was first produced at the Lyceum on 16 February 1899 — The Only Way, an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities in which Martin-Harvey played the lead role of ‘Sydney Carton’.  We offer a superb, Signed Cabinet Photograph depicting him in character as ‘Sydney Carton’, circa 1902.   Boldly signed, above his image, on the photographic surface “J Martin Harvey”.   Image by the London Steroscopic Company with their imprints on recto and verso.   Very fine condition, and as nice as they come.
