SHEPARD, ERNEST HOWARD.(1879-1976). English artist and book illustrator; best known as illustrator for A. A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh and Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind in the Willows. Uncommon Autograph Letter Signed “Ernest H. Shepard” on his Lodsworth 212 I Woodmancote, Lodsworth, Nr Petworth stationery. One page, octavo. [London], October 28, 1959. With two oval ink stamps from Methuen Co. & Ltd, “The Publishers” dated 29th of October 1959, noting receipt. A fine blue ink line is drawn vertically through the text. Shepard writes: “Dear Sir, I have received from Messrs. Curtis Brown two three copies each of The ‘World of Christopher Robin’ and the new Edition of the ‘Wind in the Willows.’ Please accept my thanks for these. Yours truly Ernest H. Shepard — I am very pleased with the colored reproductions in both these books.” Just a fine letter with great associations.
