AARON BURR ISSUES HIMSELF A CHECK
BURR, AARON. (1756-1836). American revolutionary officer and political leader; 3RD Vice President of the U.S.; infamous for his duel with Alexander Hamilton. Uncommon Partly-printed Bank Check Signed, “Aaron Burr”, and made out entirely in his hand to “A.B. [himself]”, in the amount of 3 Pounds 4 shillings. One page, oblong octavo. New York, March 5, 1788. Manuscript cancellations [as is normal] and with a wide lower margin.
This check is a scarce surviving example of Burr’s financial dealings. ,Any autograph material from Burr’s early life prior to his involvement with politics and the vice presidency and his infamous duel with Alexander Hamilton, is far less common than his later period material. Simply a choice Revolutionary-era financial document, signed by one of the most controversial and fascinating figures in early American history.
