Gerry was born on July 17, 1744, in Marblehead, Massachusetts, and was a prominent American Founding Father, merchant, and politician who signed the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation. He served as the fifth Vice President of the United States from March 4, 1813 until his death on November 23, 1814 under President James Madison.
