RUTHERFORD B. HAYES
FULL AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED AS PRESIDENT, ON EXECUTIVE MANSION STATIONERY
HAYES, RUTHERFORD B. (1822-93). Nineteenth President of the United States (1877-81); Brevet major general in Civil War, wounded five times, most seriously at the Battle of South Mountain in 1862. Autograph Letter Signed, “R.B. Hayes”, as President, on imprinted Executive Mansion stationery. One full page, octavo. Washington, DC, “3 June 1879”. Very fine condition. To Mrs. Morris. Hayes writes:
“I hope the enclosed letter will be useful to your son Charles, and that he will return to you in restored health. Sincerely, R.B. Hayes”.
A fine attractive letter, written entirely in is hand as President, on Executive Mansion letter-head, showing compassion for her son, who apparently asked for an autograph of the President.
