U.S. GRANT AFFIXES HIS SIGNATURE TO A ‘WARRANT FOR A PARDON’ —  ONE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS, IN 1873.

GRANT, ULYSSES S(IMPSON).  (1822-85).  Eighteenth President of the United States (1869-77).  Partly Printed Document Signed, “U.S. Grant”.  One page, quarto.  Washington, D.C., December 26, 1873.  Tipped to a piece of paper, else very fine condition.  The document reads: “I hereby authorize and direct the Secretary of State to affix the Seal of the United States to a warrant for the pardon of John Whitlock, dated this day, and signed by me: and for so doing, this shall be his warrant.  U.S. Grant”.   Just a superb item for framing or display.
