PRESIDENT JACKSON SEEKS AN APPOINTMENT FOR A VETERAN OF THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR TO BE A POST MASTER

JACKSON, ANDREW (1767-1845) President of the United States.  Autograph Note Signed, “Andrew Jackson”, as President.   One page, oblong octavo. No place. [Washington], “March 31st 1838”.   Addressed to “The Postmaster Genl.”  Lightly browned, yet fine condition.  Jackson writes:

“If Capt Thomas van Gossbeck is capable to perform the duties of the office of postmaster, it is due to his revolutionary services to give it to him. I refer you to the Honble Chas. G. Dearett, for information as to this competency.  March 31st 1838….”

An attractive example for someone who wants a Jackson, and some 40+ words all in his hand, at a relatively inexpensive price.
