AGATHA CHRISTIE

WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION,

THE ALPHABET MURDERS,

AND MURDER MOST FOUL

ALONG WITH WITH COMMENTARY  ON HER CLASSIC SLEUTHS: “HERCULE POIROT” AND “MISS MARPLE”

CHRISTIE, AGATHA.  (1890-1976).  English novelist.  Remarkable Typed Letter Signed, “Agatha Christie,” on airmail stationery, with a typed heading of her home at: Winterbrook House, Wallingford, Berkshire.    One full page, large octavo. May 23, 1972.  Very fine condition.  Addressed to: “Dear Robert Kitley”.  Christie writes:

“I am afraid I never send photographs of myself to anyone, but I hope that the signature at the bottom of this letter will do instead.

I am glad that you like my books so much, and that you have also read the Mary Westmacott ones. The book of poems you refer to, The Road of Dreams, was published in England, but I do not think it was published in the United States, and in any case it would be out of print now as I think it was published somewhere around 1925.

I am not very enthusiastic about the films made of my books. Witness for the Prosecution was a good film, but that was taken from the play. The M.G.M films of The Alphabet Murders, and Murder Most Foul, were, I think, extremely bad films, and there was no reason for taking out Hercule Poirot and substituting Miss Marple – which entirely spoilt the story.  Best wishes to you,  Sincerely, Agatha Chrisitie”.

Any letter which references her better known and most beloved works commands serious consideration, by the collector.  This letter with the mention of three of her [arguably] best books, and her two greatest character sleuths makes this letter an opportunity not to be missed!
