VON STEUBEN, FRIEDRICH [BARON]. (1730-1794). Prussian-American General of the American Revolutionary army; provided invaluable aid to the American Revolution, joining George Washington at Valley Forge in 1778 where he transformed the Americans into a cohesive fighting force. Rare Partly-Printed Check Signed, “Steuben”. One page, oblong narrow octavo. New York, November 21, 1791. Drawn on ‘Cashier of the Bank’ and made out in Steuben’s holograph to “T. Lopez” in the amount of “five & twenty dollars”. Large “X” cancellation marks across document slightly affect signature. Very fine condition. His signature has always been difficult to obtain, and this specimen is a superb addition to any collection.
