AN: “I AM HOUSTON’ BOLDY SIGNED FREE- FRANKED ENVELOPE

HOUSTON, SAM.  (1793-1863).  American soldier and politician; first president of Republic of Texas.  His free-franking Signature, “From / Sam Houston”, on the front of a pale yellow envelope.  September 9, no year.  Addressed entirely in Houston’s hand to “Mr. A.J. Smith, Trenton, New Jersey”, with “Huntsville, Texas” circular postal cancellation.  Very fine condition.  [The  ‘I am Houston’ , refers to Houston’s signature with the ‘S’ resembling a capital ‘I’ added to the ‘am’ making it known as the “I Am Houston” signature.]

 

With a steel-engraved vintage portrait that depicts Houston in a 1/2 length bust pose.
