SAN MARTÍN, JOSÉ DE. (1778-1850). Argentine General, known as the “Liberator of Argentina, Chile and Peru”; one of the principal leaders of the independence movement in South America from the Spanish Empire in the 19th Century; served as the Protector of Peru. Scarce Partly-printed Document Signed, “José de San Martín”, in Spanish. One page, quarto. Lima, “Le 22 Dece[ember] de 1821-22”. Ornate vignette of flags, eagle, lama and mountain sun-rise at lower left. Very fine condition. An appointment for “Don Jose Roa”, as a Consul General, who San Martin orders “and commands that he be recognized as such, keeping him and making him keep all the distinctions and relevances that correspond to him by this title. For which, I had the present issued, signed by me, sealed with the provisional seal of the State, and countersigned by our Minister Secretary of State in the department of the General of which a corresponding note will be taken. Given in Lima on the 22nd of the day of 1821-2. & of the Liberty of Peru.” Just a wonderuful item for display.
