SHERIDAN, PHILIP HENRY (1831-1888) U.S. Army officer and a Union general in the Civil War. Sheridan’s forces were among the first to use scorched earth tactics during the war, and also were instrumental in forcing Lee’s surrender at Appomattox. His Signature and rank: “P.H. Sheridan / Lt. General,” as cut from a larger document. One page oblong octavo. [approximately 1 ½ x 5 ¼ inches]. No place. No date. Small pin holes at lower edge and to the right of Sheridan’s rank, not affecting his signature, else fine condition.
