 HIS BOLD SIGNATURE ~ PENNED AS GENERAL   

SHERMAN, WILLIAM TECUMSEH.  (1820-91).  United States General in the American Civil War.   His signature: “W. T. Sherman / General”,  penned on a 16mo card.   Accompanied by the front panel of the envelope it was sent in addressed in his hand to: “L. Hassell Lapp, No. 208 Market St / Philadelphia”.   Circular black “Washington D.C.” postal cancellation,  “May 25”, no year.    Mounting traces on verso, else very fine condition as seen.  A choice item for the Civil War collector.
