‘BUFFALO BILL’ CODY WRITES HIS NIECE
GIVING HER HIS TOUR DATES FOR 1909
CODY, WILLIAM F. [BUFFALO BILL]. (1846-1917). American guide, scout and showman. Attractive Autograph Letter Signed, “Uncle Will”, on his imprinted and illustrated Buffalo Bill’s Wild West stationery. One page, quarto. “Muscatine, I[ow]a.”, August 10, [1909]. Very fine condition. Accompanied by an imprinted “Official Route Card No. 6”, with three additional cities and dates written beneath the list in Cody’s hand: “Council Bluffs, Ia., Aug. 27; Lincoln, Neb., 29; Omaha, Sep. 6th”. Also accompanied by original illustrated envelope addressed, in Cody’s hand, to his niece, “Mrs. Josie Thurston, Cody, Wyo.”, with postal cancellations. Cody writes:
“Dear Josie, Under separate cover I am sending you a large photo. I could have sent it before but I had none—had to send to Mrs. York. It keeps me busy to keep photos and I am so fearfully busy myself. I sometimes overlook the dearest one. And think of them all and keep them all happy is a task. I hope you and Harry are very happy and are enjoying the finest of health. And am having a second season. With love, Uncle Will”.
To find the Route card, with his annotations is just about unobtainable, in our experience. Just a choice display piece!
