PICASSO
SIGNS AN IMAGE OF ‘HIS GOLDEN MUSE’ ONE OF THE PAINTINGS HE ‘PERSONALLY KEPT’ UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 1973
IT JUST HAPPENS TO BE OF HIS MISTRESS: MARIE-THERESE WALTER
PICASSO, PABLO. (1881-1973). Spanish painter, draughtsman, and sculptor; best known for co-founding the Cubist movement and is considered as one of the greatest and most-influential artists of the 20th century. An attractive, full-color, printed image of a painting which Picasso considered one of his most personal, having kept it at his French Riviera villa, until his death in 1973. The image is in full color. It measures approximately 8 x 10 inches, and depicts his mistress Marie-Therese Walter, as he painted her in April of 1936. Boldly signed “Picasso” on the wide lower margin. This image was most probably signed during a visit to Picasso’s home “La Californie”, about 65+ years ago. This should frame up wonderfully!

Their relationship began when she was seventeen years old and he was 45 and married to his first wife, Olga Khokhlova. It ended after Picasso moved on to his next relationship, with artist Dora Maar. Walter is known as Picasso’s “golden muse” and inspired numerous artworks and sculptures that he created of her during their relationship. [wikipedia]. She committed suicide just 4 years after Picasso’s death, due to depression caused by his death. See below for her photo to compare with painting.
