JAMES MADISON AND JAMES MONROE

AS PRESIDENT AND SECRETARY OF STATE  ~~  SIGN A GRANT FOR LAND IN:  “THE TERRITORY NORTH WEST OF THE OHIO, AND ABOVE THE MOUTH OF [THE] KENTUCKY RIVER”

MADISON, JAMES.  (1751-1836).  Fourth President of the United States (1809-17).  Partly Printed Document Signed, “James Madison”, as President.  One page, oblong folio, vellum.  Washington, D.C., March 7, 1812.  Countersigned by JAMES MONROE, as Secretary of State.  Ornate white wafer Seal of State, with all its paper points intact, affixed with red wax at lower left.  Madison grants a tract of land to John Wilson under “An act providing for the sale of the lands of the United States in the Territory north west of the Ohio, and above the mouth of [the] Kentucky River”.  Tiny silverfish holes at top center, and slight toning of vellum, else fine condition.  Madison and Monroe’s signatures are boldly penned.  A fine addition to any starter set of presidents.
