“I HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM…THE NORTH”

SHACKLETON, SIR ERNEST HENRY.  (1874-1922).  British explorer of Antarctica.  Scarce Typed Letter Signed, “E.H. Shackleton”, on his imprinted 9, Regent Street, London, S.W. stationery.  One page, quarto.  London, February 15, 1912.  Excellent condition.  Accompanied by original envelope addressed to “Mrs. R. Everitt, Elstree, Herts.”, with one-penny stamp and postal cancellations.  Shackleton writes: “Dear Mrs. Everitt, I shall be very pleased to try and attend your meeting, but will you first send me full details of time, because it is quite possible that I may be called away from England at any moment.  If it is within the range of possibility I shall be very pleased to speak.  I have only just returned from Paris and the north—hence delay in answering your kind letter.  Believe me, yours sincerely, E.H. Shackleton”.
