GEORGE WASHINGTON  TO BRIGADIER GENERAL WILLIAM IRVINE

WASHINGTON, GEORGE. (1732-99).  First President of the United States.  Complete address-leaf franked with his Bold full Signature “G. Washington”, in the lower left corner.  Addressed in Tench Tilghman’s hand: “Brigadier / General Irvine / at/ Cranes Mills”, and marked on “public service” in upper right corner.  Research would indicate that this dates from early January 1780, while Washington was camped at Morristown, New Jersey.     Fine overall condition, with usual folds and minor paper splits as seen, but with most of the remaining portion of the over-lap of the leaf remaining.   Washington’s signature is complete, and boldly well penned.  A choice example for framing or display, in addition to being a fine ‘starting point’ for the addition of a Washington autograph to any collection!
