EXCEPTIONAL & BOLD U.S. GRANT SIGNATURE PENNED AS LIEUTENANT GENERAL
GRANT, ULYSSES S. (1822-1885). Union General and Eighteenth President of the United States; on March 2, 1864, Lincoln promoted Grant to Lieutenant General, giving him command of all Union Armies; Grant’s new rank had previously been held only by George Washington; Grant arrived in Washington on March 8 and was formally commissioned by Lincoln the next day at a Cabinet meeting. His Signature, “U.S. Grant / L[ieutenan]t Gen[eral] U[nited] S[tates] A[rmy].,” on a 24 mo card [3 1/2 x 2 inches approx]. Very fine condition.
