RUTHERFORD B. HAYES — AS PRESIDENT, MAKES INTRODUCTIONS FOR AN AMERICAN TRAVELING ABROAD

HAYES, RUTHERFORD B. (1822-93). Nineteenth President of the United States (1877-81). Scarce Autograph Letter Signed, “R.B. Hayes,” as President, on imprinted Executive Mansion letterhead. One full page, octavo. Washington, D.C. March 30, 1880. To Governor E.F. Noyes,  the American Minister in Paris.  Accompanied by the original Executive Mansion imprinted transmittal envelope addressed fully in Hayes’ hand.  Minor fold separation to second integral blank page, and light edge ruffling to envelope, else very fine condition.  Hayes sends a letter of introduction:  “This will introduce to you W. M. Justice of Philadelphia who is about to visit Europe with his family. He is a gentleman of character, responsibility, and good social standing.  I trust you will see him. R.B. Hayes.”  An excellent example for the collector building a set of President’s letters written while in office.
