ELIOT, T.S. (1888-1965). American-born writer and
poet. Typed Letter Signed, “T.S.E.,” on imprinted Faber
and Faber Ltd. letterhead. One full page, small quarto. “24
Russell Square, London, W.C.1.,” December 5, 1946. Very fine
condition. To “J. de V. Aylward, Esq., 22 Victoria Road, West
Kirby, Cheshire.” Eliot writes:
“My dear Aylward, It is good to hear from
you whatever the provocation behind your letter and I hasten to assure
you that I shall be very happy to perform this slight service for
your friend and his daughter. As he has already got the books and
as some of them may be out of stock here, it seems best that he should
send them on to me at once and I will sign them immediately so that
the gift will be in good time for Christmas. You say nothing about
any likelihood of your visiting London but I hope that you will have
reason to come before very long. I shall be invisible during most
of January as I am going to have a minor operation so I hope that
your next visit will not be during that period. With best wishes and
looking forward to a future evening with you, Yours ever, T.S.E.”
