“My dear cousin Maggie: We shall be glad to have a visit from you this month—say about four weeks—as soon after the 10th or 15th as convenient. Our family during the month will be the children of Webb, with Emily Platt and Miss Forte. We also expect, as a visitor, Miss Devens, a niece of the Atty. Genl. She will stay part of the time of your visit—and probably a daughter of William Henry Smith, a Chicago friend. Our love to your father and mother, and the young folks. Sincerely, R.B. Hayes.”
