WASHINGTON, GEORGE. (1732-99). First President of
the United States (1789-97). Partly-Printed Document Signed, “G.
Washington.” Ornate, 32mo. lottery ticket. No place, [VA] 1768.
Excellent condition. The ticket reads:
“This Ticket (no. 258) shall entitle the
Possessor to whatever Prize may happen to be drawn against it’s
[sic] Number in the Mountain Road Lottery.”
George Washington created the Mountain Road Lottery
to finance the construction of Mountain Road, which opened westward
expansion from Virginia.
