CARNEGIE, ANDREW. (1835-1919). American industrialist
and philanthropist. Autograph Letter Signed, “Andrew Carnegie,”
on imprinted Skibo Castle stationery. Three full pages, octavo. Dornoch,
Sutherland, May 28, 1904. Very fine condition. Accompanied by original
Skibo Castle envelope addressed to “Chas. Tachey, Esq., Artist
etc., 4 Rue de Blanche, Paris, France,” in Carnegie’s
hand. Also accompanied by a dictated, secretarially signed letter,
“Andrew Carnegie,” addressed to Mr. Tachey. Carnegie writes:
“My dear Mons. Tachey, Many thanks for
your kind note —sorry to have caused you so much trouble. I
hope in future years you will be as kind to me and guide me wisely
thru [sic] the salon. Maybe we can select other gems. I find the end
of our hall rather darker than expected. We expected new roof lights
made last winter to light it up more. We may increase the number of
lights by and by and then such a cartoon as I admired will be in order
— I could not have resisted buying the one we saw. It was so
beautiful. It is some consolation however that the governmental advisers
endorsed our opinion by securing it same day. I hope you will take
me to see it in place — also Madam — with kindest wishes
and renewed thanks, sincerely yours, Andrew Carnegie.”
