ELLEN GLASGOW — COMMENTING ON THE VIRGINIA EQUAL SUFFRAGE LEAGUE’S ACTIONS

GLASGOW, ELLEN (1873-1845)   Pulitzer Prize winning American novelist.  Scarce Autograph Letter Signed, “Ellen  Glasgow,” on One West Main Street, Richmond, Virginia letterhead.  Two separate pages, octavo. Richmond, Virginia. “December 8, 1909”. Accompanied by original envelope addressed by Glasgow to “Miss Ruth Ann Bruce / 207 West Franklin Street. / Richmond, [Va].” Glasgow writes:  “Dear Ruth Ann, the note to Mr. Valentine, President of the Virginia Equal Suffrage League … and how I answered.  I don’t think the action of the property owners  at Garter Park have any particular significance… With affectionate greetings to you all,  your cousin,  Ellen Glasgow”.  Her letters are not often encountered, and this one with it’s Suffrage content is particularly choice.
