TROTSKY — “THE PERMANENT REVOLUTION”

“GREET ALL COMRADES FROM ME AND THANK ALL OF THOSE FRIENDS FROM ME WHO CONTRIBUTED SO MAGNIFICENTLY TOWARD THE PRODUCTION OF THE BROCHURE…”

TROTSKY, LEON  (1879-1940) Bolshevik revolutionary and Marxist theorist. Typed Letter Signed, “L. Trotsky,” in German. With two holograph corrections and autograph sentiments. One full page, oblong octavo. Kadikoy, Turkey. June 20, 1931. Trotsky writes:

“Dear Comrad Shachtman, 1.   We have received your new luxury edition and are pleased to see that your publishing house is prospering. 2.   Since the Boni matter seems to have been settled, I hope that it means that $1,000 are due to the militant. I will inform you about details as soon as I myself have learned more specifics. 3.   The Weissbord question has been settled by the secretariat, as you probably already know. 4.   How far your friend Landau has gone you will have heard by now. The dead ride fast. 5.   Have you taken care of the unpleasant business with the Deutsche Volkszeitung? 6.   Greet all comrades from me and thank all of those friends from me who contributed so magnificently toward the production of the brochure about the Permanent Revolution, and whose names you listed at the end of the prospectus. With best wishes, L. Trotsky”
